Every move starts with a site inspection. We check the access at both ends, and we check the route in between for trees, bridges, power lines and anything else that could stop a wide load. If the building will not fit through in one piece, we will tell you at that point what cutting it involves and what it costs.
Most moves happen at night, when the roads are quiet and a road closure or a pilot vehicle escort is easier to arrange. Once the building is on its new site we can lower it straight onto its foundations, or hold it on the jacks while the foundation work is finished.

How a building removals job runs

Site inspection
We visit both sites, check access and walk the route. You get the real constraints and the real cost before you commit.

Consents and reports
You will usually need a resource consent to bring a relocated building in, plus a geotechnical report on the receiving site. We point you to the people who do this well.

Foundations prepared
New piles go in ahead of the move so the building can be lowered onto a finished foundation rather than sitting on jacks for weeks.

The move
The building comes up onto the hydraulic trailers and travels, usually overnight, with pilot vehicles where the load requires them.

Set down and rejoin
If the building travelled in pieces we rejoin it on site, then lower it onto its piles and hand it over to your contractors.

What types of relocations can you do?
Houses, cabins and baches, sheds and barns, churches, marae, community halls and classrooms. We also move machinery, boats and waka. If it is large, awkward or precious, it is worth asking. With the right planning most things can be moved. See specialised moves.
Why do house moves happen at night?
A house on a trailer is an oversize load. Moving it when the roads are quiet is safer, and it makes road closures, pilot vehicles and lifting power lines far easier to arrange. Most moves run through the early hours.
Will my house have to be cut in half?
Only if it has to be. It depends on the width of the building and the tightest point on the route, including corners, bridges and overhead lines. We tell you at the site inspection whether the building travels whole or in pieces, and what that adds.
